World's first commercial drone delivery service starts in Rwanda |

Zipline Muhanga Distribution Center, Zipline’ s 1st operational site, only launched last year, is now beginning drone delivery service to Kabgayi District Clinic.

This made Rwanda the first nation to integrate drones into their airspace and to start daily operations of independent delivery.

Zipline built a passionate team of Rwandan engineers, well being technicians, and operators in order to receive orders, pack blood products, and fly typically the fleet.

The hospitals they serve range from tiny communities to remote cities hrs outside the capital. The particular path to each can become quite challenging, with towering mountain ranges and in season rivers. Zipline flies more than this challenging terrain and is able to reach Muhororo District Hospital in 18 minutes, while a pickup truck would have to require a four hour journey by road to pick upward blood. Working closely with the Ministry of Health, we trained hospital technicians and doctors the way to order blood products through Zipline and how to help to make use of this substantially new delivery service.

Zipline’ t distribution center fits on a small plot of terrain. The drones are capable to take off in a short distance making use of a powerful launcher. In order to recover the drone successfully, they needed to solve a much harder problem. Motivated by aircraft carrier landings, their recovery system bobs up and down to catch the deployed tailhook of a good airplane as it fights turbulent flow. This system allows all of them to capture the rhyme in a small location, and if they overlook, the plane just jigs around again.
